Asphalt Paving
Residential
We can break this down to 3 general categories:
Recapping: An overlay of 1-2 inches, cracks are likely to reappear in a 1-5 yr.s depending.
Saves on excavation expense. Viable when you have a level drive. Good for property resale.
Good if drive is level & not too cracked through to foundation, but ugly from COAL TAR sealing.
Re & re: Remove & replace. Remove asphalt, add crushed aggregate to grade & replace asphalt; 2-3
inches thick.
Re & re Plus: Remove asphalt & existing aggregate. Excavate soil / clay beneath & dispose of.
Replace original aggregate if feasible. Add new aggregate on top. Replace asphalt.
GENERAL: For our purposes here we shall say the asphalt comes in grades 2-6, "2" being fine 2/8 or 1/4 aggregate. "6" being coarse 6/8 or 3/4 aggregate. Hl3 & Hl3a being the most common. "a" having a little more sand composition therefore being a little finer.Commercial / industrial
